A 14 year old girl named D'Zhana Simmons lived for about 114 days without a heart. According to some sources, D'Zhana first had a transplant for her enlarge heart which unfortunately failed and with D'zhana already in danger, the doctors immediately had to come up with a solution in order to save D'Zhana's life. Dr. Si Pham and Dr. Marco Ricci came up with an artificial device that pumped blood into D'Zhana's body. What was unusual about this medical procedure was that D'Zhana literally "had no heart" in her body for 114 days. It was a very hard and scary time for D'Zhana as she feared that the machine might at anytime malfunction and put an end to her life. But thankfully, D'Zhana was able receive another heart transplant which was successfully done after four months of relying on a machine.
